Aim
Practice the batting & Fielding techniques in basics
Equipment Required
- 1 Saucer cone/tees
- 2 stumps
- Marker cone
- 1 bat & 2 balls per game (8 – 10 players)
Play Area Set-Up
- Define a playing area through cone markers and pitch by putting stumps for striker & non-striker ends
- Place a tee/saucer cone for hitting the ball
Activity Description
- Each pair bats for 6 hits (3 each) and can only be dismissed in 2 ways – ‘caught’ if the ball is caught by any fielder before it hits the ground or ‘runout’ if the batter does not reach their safe ground before the ball hits the stumps. If a batter does get out they simply swap with their partner.
- One batter hits the ball from the tee while the partner stands at the non-striker’s end. Batters must run each time they hit the ball. If players are not batting they are in the field. It is important that each fielder rotates after each pair has batted to ensure the field in every position.
- The pair with the most runs wins.
Grade Level Progression
- Shorten or widen the play area to increase batting & fielding complexities.
- Include hitting a particular target as part of batting to get additional run
- Have a bowler to bowl to the batsman instead of using a tee
