  • Twist hips to one side
  • Twist hips to the other side
  • Keep arms still as hips are twisted
  • Keep the upper body facing forward throughout

  • Cross the feet one way
  • Cross the feet another way
  • Repeat

Equipment Required

Basic Short Skipping Rope – One per person

Activity Description

  • Jump and tap the toe of the one foot in front
  • Jump and tap the toe of the other foot in front

EASY: Practice the footwork without a rope

HARD: Try a heel-toe tap (tap the heel of the one foot in front, tap the toe of the   same foot in front, repeat with the other foot)

Skill: Advanced

Equipment Required:

Basic Short Skipping Rope – One per person

Activity Description

  • Perform a few basic jumps
  • Cross the arms in front of the body
  • Jump through the loop keeping the arms crossed
  • Uncross the arms

Progression

 EASY: Practice turning the rope and crossing the arms in front of the body, then stepping over the rope.

HARD: Try a backward cross over (turn the rope backward, perform a few basic jumps and cross the arms in from of the body

CHALLENGE: Can you do a continuous forward or backward cross over, where the arms remain crossed?

Equipment Required

Basic Short Skipping Rope – One per 2 persons

Activity Description

  • Partners face each other
  • One partner turns the rope (turner)
  • Both partners jump together

Progression

 EASY: Partners face each other, put their hand on each other’s shoulders and practice jumping at the same time without the rope

HARD: Try different footwork skills whilst skipping face to face

CHALLENGE: Can the partner without the rope jump around on the sport?
